Because electrical engineering is becoming important for national development, the Department of Electrical Engineering at National Chung Hsing University was established in 1992. Prof. Huey-Liang Hwang was our first chairman. In the beginning, the department was in the former building of the Department of Farm Machinery.

- 1992, Department of Electrical Engineering was established.
- 1996, Master program started to enroll students.
- 1999, Part-time master program started.
- 2000, Meng Yao Chip Center was set up.
- 2001, Department moved to the new building and founded the doctoral program and the second class of the undergraduate program.
- 2005, Industrial technology R&D master program started.
- 2006, Graduate Institute of Communication Engineering and the Graduate Institute of Optoelectronics Engineering were founded.
- 2007, Advisory Committee of Electrical Engineering Department and the Alumni Association were founded.
- 2008, Department passed accreditation formulated by the Institute of Engineering Education, Taiwan for reaching international educational standards and established the dual-degree master program with the Toyota Technological Institute, Japan.
- 2009, CTSP (Central Taiwan Science Park) technology R&D master program in the Graduate Institute of Optoelectronics Engineering started.
- 2010, Cooperative agreement with the University of Applied Sciences Darmstadt, Germany, was signed.
- 2011, First graduate students joining the dual-degree master program were granted Master degrees from both Toyota Technological Institute and National Chung Hsing University.
- 2012, Optoelectronic Semiconductor Research Center was set up.
- 2013, Established「Fast Prototypes of Digital Systems Laboratory」with Xilinx development corporation and E-Elements Technology corporation.
- 2015, Established the dual-degree Ph. D. program with the BeiHang University, Beijing, China.
- 2018, National Chung Hsing University established the College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in August, 2018. The Department of Electrical Engineering has been transferred from the College of Engineering to the College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science since then.
- 2021, Established the 3+X Master’s Degree Program with UC Davis, USA.
- 2021, Established the MediaTek IC Design Course Program with the MediaTek Inc.
- 2023, Established the TSMC Advanced Circuit Design Program and Device Integration Program with the TSMC Inc.
- 2023, Established the dual-degree Ph. D. program with the College of Engineering, Utah State University, Utah, USA.
- 2023, Signed the MOU on cooperative research on the Elite Doctoral Cultivation Program with the Research Center of Applied Sciences, Academia Sinica, Taiwan.
- 2023, Established the dual-degree master program with the College of Engineering & Applied Science (CEAS), University of Cincinnati (UC), USA.
