Introduction

The Graduate Program is divided into the following four groups. A graduate student can select either one to purchase a master degree according to his/her interest.

1.        Communication and Information Group

2.        Control Group

3.        Electronics Group

4.          System-on-Chip (SOC) Group

 

1. Communication and Information Group

The objective is to cultivate talents of communication and information science, with emphasis on integration of communication systems and information processing techniques. The scope of research covers areas of communication systems, multimedia information processing, fuzzy neural systems, high speech networks, computer aided circuits design, microprocessors, and expert systems. To match the internal development of communication and information technology industries, the group focuses on both theoretical researches and practical applications, while the research particularly directs to the theory and techniques for the development of intelligent systems.

2. Systems and Control Group

The objective is to cultivate talents in areas of automatic control, intelligent systems, intelligent robots, and electrical power. The scope of research covers control theory, automatic systems, computational intelligence, robotics, energy management, and electrical control. The group focuses on theoretical researches, practical applications, and the integration with other related areas in electrical engineering to form an intelligent system. In mid Taiwan, it mainly focuses on the researches on innovative control theory and electrical machinery, and applications in industries related to electrical engineering, such as electrical machinery, power, mechanical and electrical integration, aeronautics and astronautics, automobiles, and automation.

3. Electronics Group

The objective is to cultivate design and manufacture talents in areas of semiconductors, optoelectronics, and flat panel display. The scope of research covers semiconductor fabrication technology, integrated circuits fabrication, physics of semiconductor devices, solid-state physics, nano optoelectronics, liquid crystal display, and design and fabrication of flat panel display. To fulfill the internal demands of technology industries on semiconductors, optoelectronics, nanotechnology, and flat panel display, and to develop innovative process technology, the development direction focuses on thin film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD), light emitting devices (LED, including organic, inorganic, and semiconductors), photovoltaic and photodetector devices, optical communication devices and systems, nano optoelectronics, etc.

4. SOC Group

The objective is to cultivate chip design talents in areas of very large scale integrated circuits (VLSI), analog and mixed-signal circuits, and high frequency circuits. The scope of research covers multimedia chips, communication chips, embedded chips, analog integrated circuits, mixed-signal circuits, high frequency and microwave circuits, memory circuits, and device simulations. To fulfill the internal demands of technology industries on computers, communication and consumer electronics, and the trend on the system on chip, the research directs to the development of electronic models, such as digital, analog, and mixed-signal circuits, and system integration with groups of control, communication and information.

 

 

Graduation Requirements for Master Students

1.      Students must earn totally 24 credits for courses and 6 credits for Master thesis.

2.      Excluding Master thesis, required subjects for each group are listed as follows.

A.   Communication and Information Group

(i) Random Processes (3 credits)

(ii) Seminar in Communication (Ⅰ and ) or Seminar in Information(Ⅰ and ) select one, Special Topics in Electrical Engineering(Ⅰ and ), zero credit will be granted.

B.   Systems and Control Group

(i) System Theory (3 credits)

(ii) Seminar in Control Systems (Ⅰ and ), Special Topics in Electrical Engineering (Ⅰ and ), zero credit will be granted.

C.  Electronics Group

(i) Physics of Semiconductor Devices (3 credits)

(ii) Seminar in Electronics (Ⅰ and ), Special Topics in Electrical Engineering ( and ), zero credit will be granted.

D.   System-on-Chip Group

(i) Design of Computer Aided VLSI Circuits (3 credits)

(ii) Seminar in System on Chip (Ⅰ and ) or Seminar in Analog Circuits (Ⅰ and )select one, Special Topics in Electrical Engineering (Ⅰ and ), zero credit will be granted.
